A few days ago, our group of mothers in Kiandutu met for the first time in 2011. The women thanked GCL for our support in 2010; they said the monthly food baskets had gone a long way towards alleviating their families’ hunger. They also were extremely grateful for the assistance with medicine, hospital fees, and day care.
All of the mothers had children five or under. We took their heights and weights so we can keep track of how they do during the year. This year, the big change is that GCL is providing a nutritious daily lunch for 30 children at a local child care center. But we're only supplying the food. Parent volunteers will do the cooking. The school itself supplied the pots and pans and fuel. Children will bring their own plates and spoons.
During 2011, GCL will continue to reach out to desperately hungry or sick children with emergency food and medical care. But so many more children in Kiandutu need our help......
